Selecting the Right Clothing for Cruises

If you’re taking a cruise on the open ocean, you’ll want to make sure you have the right clothes packed for the occasion. In many instances, travelers taking their first cruise assume that all they’ll need are bathing suits and a couple of towels, along with several pairs of shorts and some casual t-shirts. This assumption is often based on rational thinking, as one would assume that cruises sailing through the Caribbean or along the Central American coasts would be bathed in warm weather. But ocean winds and the cool internal climate of many modern ships results in many tourists who are unprepared with their own luggage. By following these cruise clothing tips, you should be better prepared for whatever the high seas bring.

Comfort counts

You may be one of those people who packed seven suits for your seven day cruise, and while most ships due hold formal and semiformal event nights, wearing a three piece suit to lounge out by the pool isn’t going to be very comfortable (for you or for the underdressed guests nearby you). Instead, always go for what makes you comfortable. After all, you are on a vacation. If you’re taking an overnight cruise or any cruise where you’ll be spending the night onboard, be sure to pack a large, plush bathrobe for yourself. Great for balcony gazing and for staying warm on the deck after a refreshing dip in the pool, this is one item that will be keeping you comfortable all cruise long. Don’t forget a sweatshirt for potentially cool nights as well!

Bring your best

So if you were the guy with the seven suits for seven nights mentioned earlier, you probably don’t have to read this part. If you’re anyone else however, be sure to pay attention. For formal dinner nights, family pictures, and perhaps even a trip out on the island, you’ll want to have formalwear. Don’t worry about over-packing though. Depending on the length of your cruise, you’ll only need one, maybe two formal outfits. That shouldn’t be a problem if everything else you’re packing is just bathing suits and tank tops.

Don’t forget the shades

Protecting your eyes is always essential on sunny vacations, so be sure you bring a pair of classy sunglasses along for the trip. As useful for deck hopping as they are for off-ship excursions, you don’t want to miss out on the action because you can’t see anything. Plus, a nice set of shades can help cover those red, blotchy eyes after a night (or a week) of heavy drinking on and off the ship.
