Royal Langkawi International Sailing Regatta

The Royal Langkawi International Regatta has been going from strength to strength since it's inception in 2003, with yacht racers coming from as far as France and Belgium.

The regatta is enjoyed by international racing crews as well as cruising yachtsmen who may be in the area whilst doing a circumnavigation of the globe. The event is over 5 days with extreme competition from all the crews on the water. If you happen to have a brief moment of inaction aboard you will be able to take in the some of beautiful islands that make up the 99 magical islands around Langkawi, Malaysia. These islands along with Langkawi make up the Jewel of Kedah.

All the usual yacht classes are allowed to enter and the official classes that one can enter in are:

  • Racing
  • Sport Boats (This class may be split into three classes if there are many entrants. These three classes will be Sports Boats, Platu and Longtze)
  • IRC (This class may be split into two classes if there are many entrants. These two classes will be Premier Racer/Cruiser and IRC 1)
  • Multihull (This class may be split into three classes if there are many entrants. These three classes will be Racing Multihull, Firefly 850's and Premier Cruising Multihull)
  • Club (This class may be split into two classes if there are many entrants. These two classes will be Cruising and Ocean Rover)

Prizes include The Prime Minister's Challenge Trophy which is presented to the yacht with the lowest score for the series which is competing in the Racing Class. This yacht will be the overall winner of the regatta.

The Lada-IRC Challenge Trophy will be presented to the yacht with the lowest score for competing in the IRC class. This yacht will be the winner of the IRC regatta.

The Langkawi Sports Trophy goes to the yacht with the lowest score in the Sports Boat class, who will be announced as the winner of the Langkawi Sports Boat regatta.

The Malaysian Multihull Challenge Cup is presented to the yacht competing in the Multihull Racing class and will be declared the Multihull regatta winner.

The RLYC Commodore's Challenge Cup will go the the yacht with the lowest score in the club class. That yacht will be the winner of the Club Handicap regatta.

The Tunku Abdullah Sportsmanship Award is a special award in memory of the Founder and first Commodore, Tunku Tan Sri Abdullah that will be presented to the crew for sportsmanship both on the water and on land.
